11th/12th-Century BookCalligraphic parchment paper bound on hemp cords with linen thread waxed with beeswax. Half-inch think oak boards covered with vegetable-tanned sheepskin. Page edges decorated in red and black pattern (see documentation). The tabs on the spine and the endbands are sewn with the same linen thread used to attach the quires to the supports. The metal hasps were cut from 1/8-inch-thick mild steel plate (as a substitute for iron) and pegs were turned from mild steel rod. ![]() ![]()
