English Cookbook, c. 1450

This binding was a commission from a living history group. The text block, purchased elsewhere, had been previously sewn (badly) on leather thongs, which I had to remove and replace with tawed thongs. These were laced through quartersawn oak boards. The covering is calfskin, with simple blind tooling. The corner bosses and clasps were commissioned from Blackwood Jewellery and are based on photographs of surviving examples. The fore-edge is stained with red ochre and marked with the book's title, Potage Dyvers.
