Girdle Book with Overcover and Cord Closure

image image image

After completing Baroness Nastasiia's girdle book (below), I wanted to experiment with other covering styles. This book has a chemise-style overcover and a cord closure instead of a Turk's Head knot. The interior pages are blank. Calligraphic parchment paper, edge painted with acrylic paint, sewn with linen thread onto leather thongs. Bound in 1/4-inch oak boards covered in alum-tawed leather, and covered with a separate alum-tawed overcover. The overcover was sewn with linen thread. The cord is a kumihimo cord created by Baroness Nastasiia from DMC embroidery floss. The peg is filed from brass wire, and the hasp is cut from sheet brass. Completed in October 2007.
