Laurel Scroll

This scroll was a special commission for the elevation of Geoffrey Bourette. Mathilde Bourette requested the I use a painting by Jean Bourdichon, a French painter, for the central miniature, but that I alter the figures to include their family members. The original painting can be seen here: http://www.allposters.com/-sp/The-Four-Social-Conditions-Work-Posters_i1343796_.htm. Bourdichon was active around 1500 in France, so I chose a French border typical of that time period to match the miniature. The painting support is vellum that has been mounted on a wood panel, to allow for stability and easier framing. Paints are "period" pigments bound with either glair or egg yolk. The one addition to my pigment palette that I bought especially for this scroll is alizarin lake, which can be purchased as in lake form. Finished July 2008.
